| It is said that ignorance is bliss. When you look up the definition in a standard dictionary it states ignorance as lack of knowledge, education, and awareness. Ergo person who is blissful is blind to the realities of the world, workings of world, and the true nature of the world.
With such blindness to everything besides their immediate worlds, they have no qualms and go on their merry ways. No news, no new ideas, no attempts at wanting to know more. And that is what troubles me about society these days. The majority of people I know and have met can be classified as ignorant. The conversations are dumb down to whose dating who, someone celebrity or friend is pregnant, etc... As a psychology major, I know that the sharing of information, creates bonds, the sharing of personal information creates even stronger bonds. But that leads me to the question why does the conversation never ever pass beyond superficial greetings/updates of one's life to circumstances and news of the world. Instead of talking about the Iranian struggle for their voices to be heard they talk about how John and Kate are separating. Rather than continuously calling government leader about issues they call radio stations about tickets. People care more about the all you can eat buffet but not the homeless person who could use a simple meal. Care about your health but not the child coughing because she can't afford any healthcare. They care about getting that nice car but so what it helps destroy the environment. Why can't they care about the larger things in life?
How, I ask, is this possible? Who is to blame. Do I point my finger at society. Theories and books suggest that the majority of people, so long distracted and comfortable, could not give a hoot about the world. Our society subversively gives people permission to be ignorant by overloading their senses with messages of toys, tools, sex, money but barely anything about giving, helping, and caring. Is it the parents for having no books and tools for them. Or is it the educations system for not expecting the best out of their students? Is it the individual who subconsciously remains unaware of the world beyond?
Someone probably has an answer to all this of who or what is to blame. But I'm generally asked why I care? I can read a book telling me to forget about these things and to just live my life. Find joy and happiness. To just go on my merry way but that is not possible now. I have seen the light. I found a way out of the cycle of ignorance and bliss. I have filtered the bullshit and the crap that has been fed to us for years. That our freedoms aren't free. They are given from those who rule. As I sit here and type away at this computer freely expressing opinions in a show of support to Iranian protesters, someone in Iran could be getting shot at or arrested for simply asking "where is my one simple vote you promised?"
So please go and learn about the world and the people in it. And maybe you may have a fighting chance at winning the battle against ignorance.

| "As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake." - President Barack H. Obama, January 20, 2009.
Quick History:
Geneva Convention was ratified by U.S. Senate (who has sole authority to approve treaties). The treaties thus become Supreme Law of the Land according to Article 4 of the Constitution.
Our elected officials in the Senate of the United States of America over 60 years ago passed and signed the Geneva Conventions. According to Part 1, Article 3, Section 1a, in refernce to those having no active part in hostilies of armed forces in proibiting acts such as, "Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;"
Bush and his lackies for the past eight years have approved and used torture. This connection has been made time and time again. By condoning torture Bush violated both international law and the U.S. Constitution. Bush may be the former President of these United States but he is still subject to it's laws. I do ask everyone reading to plead to the new leaders is charge, Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama, that we should not let another Nixon pardon occur. No one is above the law. Not even the President.

| Election Day is tomorrow. I am a heavy supporter of Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. I am quite optimistic that he shall be voted in to the most powerful position, being the leader of the free world. I am asking you to vote for him. There are numerous reasons why his policies and ideas would benefit not only the working middle class, but the entire United States in general including gaining energy independace, regulation of the financial industry, to reengergizing the America economy. When your in that voting booth please remember that the trickle down idea of wealth does not quite work. We have tried it these past eight years and it is not working. We have to give money back to everyone that is not as well off. Those who don't have a six-firgure yearly income. The rich can afford higher taxes, but everyone else can not. A vote for Obama is a vote for the middle class. But I am not here to just say vote for OBAMA, which I highly recommend you do, I am also here to just simply ask you to take a part of the great experiment of our nation, democracy. There are millions around the world who envy our freedoms and our ability to choose our leaders. Let us not take for granted our greatest right, to choose. SO VOTE!!!!
